Fernando IX University Details about week 7 and the final exam
Learn to Program The Fundamentals Course Staff
Hi everyone,
This announcement contains information about the final exam and the week 7 exercise. Please read it carefully.

Final Exam

The final exam will be posted on Thursday 8 November. The deadline for completing the exam will be Mon 19 Nov 2012 1:01:00 AM EST.

Here are some rules about the exam. We have these rules in order to ensure that everyone has the same experience.

  • It is open-book: you are welcome to use any resources you like as long as you do not ask anyone any questions, anywhere, or otherwise communicate with anyone about the content of the exam, even after you have submitted. If you do, we will have no choice but to expel the people involved. This means that you are not allowed to ask for clarification, or complain about a problem.

  • We will be monitoring what people submit. If an exam question is somehow flawed, rather than fix the question, we will simply not count it.

  • Once you start the exam, you will have 3 hours to complete it. Make sure you have set aside 3 consecutive hours where you will not be interrupted.

  • You can only submit once.

Here are suggestions about what to expect on the exam, how to prepare for it, and approaches that we think will help you do better on the exam.
  • Unlike the exercises and assignments, the exam is not a teaching tool; you should be much faster at the easy stuff than you were a month and a half ago. By now, everyone should be comfortable using the Python shell and writing and running very short programs.

  • To study, reread all the lecture summaries. Make a list of all the tools that you have learned, such as function definition, if statements, and so on.

  • Make sure you understand the definitions in the Glossary on the Course Wiki: https://share.coursera.org/wiki/index.php/PGM:LTP

  • Redo the exercises. (This can't affect your grade because we take the highest mark out of all your attempts.)

  • When you first open the exam, read all of it and look for questions you know how to answer right away.

  • We will try to structure the exam so that the first set of questions will be easy and quick, and later questions will get progressively harder. The last couple of questions, we hope, will require some deep thinking, and will have you combine the tools you've learned in new ways.

Exercise 7

Because of the 1-week extension to all remaining assignments and exercises, the soft and hard deadlines for Exercise 7 are the same as the deadline for the FInal Exam. Please plan your time well.

Good luck!
