PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. – At approximately 8 a.m. Mountain Time today, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates announced his recommendation to the President to fill two key leadership positions in the unified command structure.
Adm. Timothy Keating, current commander of North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command, is being recommended to command Pacific Command. In addition, Lt. Gen. Victor “Gene” Renuart Jr., current senior military assistant to Secretary Gates, will be nominated for a fourth star and recommended to command NORAD and USNORTHCOM.
While Adm. Keating has been recommended for nomination by Secretary Gates to be the next commander of Pacific Command, his appointment must still be confirmed by Congress.
